MaishaPoa
Maisha Poa is a health insurance company that focuses on addressing the day-to-day concerns of its members. As the developer of Mzalendo, Maisha Poa is dedicated to providing affordable health insurance solutions tailored to the needs of individuals, as well as small and large companies. MaishaPoa provides an extensive array of insurance products, including life insurance, vehicle insurance, among others. This diverse portfolio is designed to meet the varied needs of the clients. Their approach emphasizes community engagement ensuring that the services offered are relevant and accessible.
SasaDoctor
SasaDoctor specializes in providing exceptional outpatient medical services, including prenatal and postnatal care, tropical disease management and HIV/AIDS services,among others, by utilizing both telemedicine and physical clinics to enhance healthcare access. Through their Sasadoctor App or 24/7 hotline, patients can seek medical consultations via the app using Android or iOS smartphones or via the toll free hotline. This service allows individuals to access healthcare from the comfort of their homes, regardless of their location in Kenya.
Mzalendo Medical Cover
The Mzalendo cover from MaishaPoa was developed through a collaborative trial with SasaDoctor along the Kenyan Coast. In this initiative, over 550 families were surveyed to gather data, after which SasaDoctor provided free medical care for three months to identify the most prevalent illnesses affecting underserved communities.
Since January 2024, the Mzalendo cover has been made available to the Kenyan public. Both MaishaPoa and SasaDoctor share a unified objective of enhancing healthcare access and outcomes for underserved populations. Their mission is to promote financial inclusion in healthcare, ensuring that low-income families can obtain necessary medical care without facing financial barriers.
The details of the Mzalendo Medical Cover are as follows:
- Annual Premium: Ksh 13,875 for the primary member plus three dependants; an additional member can be added for Ksh 2,600 annually.
- Unlimited Consultations: Members can access unlimited consultations with healthcare professionals.
- 75K Inpatient Services: includes maternity, bed charges, doctors and nursing fees, surgery, lab test and radiology
- Comprehensive Outpatient Services: Consultation with a GP, lab tests, medication, chronic disease management prenatal and postnatal care
- Free Lab Tests and Medication: Routine laboratory tests and prescribed medications are provided at no extra charge.
- Maternity Services: The plan includes maternity care, covering both normal and caesarean section deliveries, with a cost of Ksh 20,000.
